School Tour 2005- Athlone & Clonmacnoise
Slide show

This year our school tour took us to Athlone. First port of call was Derryglad Folk Museum. Here we saw many items that showed us how people lived long ago. We were shown how a school looked many years ago and the type of things that children used in school at that time. There was also a shop with all sorts of goods. The sweets and biscuits were different from what we eat. Some of the children liked the old farm machinery.

We then went out to Clonmacnoise where we watched a film about Saint Ciarán founding a monastery. Then Nuala, our guide, brought us around and told us all about the Cross of the Scriptures and the Whispering Arch and the different churches.

In the afternoon we returned to Athlone and went up the Shannon on a Viking boat. This was great fun and we all put on Viking helmets and got toy swords. We enjoyed pretending to be Vikings.
