Project on School Long Ago

Games in the Playground

Redrover : you need 6 or more players to play. There can be 3 on each side if you are playing with 6. You join hands and then you say red rover red rover let whoever come over. Then the person runs and tries to break through the arms of the other 3 people and if they don’t get through the arms, they’re on the team they tried to break through and then you do the same on the other side. That will go on until there are 5 people on one side and 1 on the other.

Hop Scotch : You draw with chalk on the ground and draw 10 boxes. The first with 1 in it , the second 2 in it, the third 3 in it etc. Then you get a stone and throw it; whichever number it lands on you hop up on one foot to the top and come down on one foot and bend to get your stone without falling. 1 or more can play.

German Jumps (also known as elastics) : You need at least 3 players to play. One person puts one end of the elastic band around their ankles and the other person puts the other end on their ankles. Then 1 person jumps in between the elastics and out over the elastics and then in , then out and that’s called England Ireland Scotland Wales. Then the 2 people move the elastics up their legs every time the person does it right. If they miss it’s the next person’s go.

Cowboys and Indians (also known as cops and robbers) : Four players or more can play. In cowboys and Indians the cowboys chase the Indians. The Indians have a den were they can’t be caught. When you are caught you go to jail. You have to wait for someone to free you and then you can run away from the cowboys again.

What Time is it Mr.Wolf : Three or more players can play what time is it Mr.Wolf.In What Time is it Mr.Wolf someone is the wolf and the and the rest of the people are the children. The children say ‘What time is it Mr.Wolf?’ and the wolf could say ‘Its three o clock’ so the children would walk up 3 steps and then the children will ask again ‘What time is it Mr.Wolf?’. The wolf might say ‘dinner time’ so he has to catch one of the children. Whoever he catches is on.

Marbles : Marbles is a game when theres one big marble in the middle and up to 4 people can play. The people have to try to hit the marble in the middle to win. But if the marble is not hit, and none hits it then the closest one to it wins.

Donkey: There can be 3 or more to play. You need a ball and some people to play with. You pass the ball to each other until you drop it. When you drop it you get a d and if you drop it again you get an o and if you spell donkey your out and the last person wins.

Piggy in the Middle: Only 3 people can play. There is a person in the middle and two on either side. The two people on
either side have to throw the ball over the person’s head. If the person in the middle catches the ball, the person who throws it is in the middle.

Tip the Can: To play tip the can you need 3 or more players. The person that is on, counts to 40. When they are finished
They say ‘tip the can, here I come’. Then the other people that are playing try to tip the can. If they get the can then they say ‘tip the can I free all.’

Playground: The playground was medium in size. There was a big hill in the playground. There was a pump as well. There was five minutes playtime. And half an hour lunchtime. The toilet was outside because there was no toilet inside. The boys played on one side of the playground and the girls played on the other side. There were big trees in the playground. There wasn’t much sport’s equipment but they had a couple of balls, skipping ropes and the pupils brought in their own elastics for German jumps. If they were playing red rover and they got through the peoples arms they might fall down the hill and hit off the pump or fall onto the road. How safe was that!

We still enjoy a lot of these games today!
