Our old school was built in 1857. It was 1 room with a partition going
through the middle so it was split in 2. There was a potbelly stove in
the middle to heat both classrooms. If 1 teacher was sick they would pull
back the partition so the 2 classrooms were 1 again. There was no electricity
because electricity came into Ireland in the 1950s. The toilets were outside
and they were chemical toilets not flush toilets.
The new school was built in 1965. It had bigger classrooms, indoor toilets
and better play facilities. Computers and other electrical goods came
into Ireland in those years. In 2008 the school had 2 new classrooms built
onto it. These new classrooms are very big and we still have the 2 old
classrooms that we used over the years. The old school is up the road
and is still standing since it was built 151 year's ago.
