Who Lives in Ard Aoibhinn

Ard Aoibhinn is a development of eleven houses and a social area. Ten of the houses are for the elderly and one of them is for the nuns. The nuns are from the Sisters of Mercy order and act as caretakers for the houses.
The people that live in the houses are Sister Mary, May Gath, Mrs Mc Kane, Patsy Smith, Mrs Kathleen Hayes, Jack Longworth, Mrs Kitty Gannon, Christina Devlin, Mrs Peggy Randles and Peggy Guinan. Five of these residents lived there since the beginning. Mrs Mc Kane is the oldest resident.
The people were picked because they were most in need of social housing. When a house is available it is advertised in the mass bulletin and the local papers. People apply for the house and the committee decides who is in most need of the house at the time. This person is then offered the house.
Two nuns from the Mercy Order live in the caretaker’s residence. The chiropodist comes every month to take care of the elderly in the parish and Mrs Dunne cooks dinner for some of the elderly who can’t cook their own.
